Preliminary Work: Front Page and Content Page

How does your prelim represent particular social groups?
My magazine is aimed at students who take or enjoy music and/or media, so it would appeal more to that particular social group. It represents them as the contents is based on latest information related to music or media within the school, so if other people come across the magazine they would get a insight into these social groups. I relate it more to our generation by mentioning the XFactor and how someone from the school has entered and gone through to boot-camp, this might catch the audiences eye and make them want to read more about this person. Representing this type of group to be cool and interesting as in connects with the latest drama happening in the music industry which a lot of students keep up to date with.

Who would be the intended audience for your product?
I would aim my magazine at students who take or enjoy media and/or music, the name of the magazine implies this as it is called 'Indie' which is a type of music genre and is a clothing style often referred to through teenagers. This is then backup by the sub-header as it mentions music, media and style, allowing the audience to know the contents of the magazine.

How did you attract/address your audience?
I attract the audience by using the XFactor to draw in people who are interested in music and television industry and wanting to know the latest thing that's going on. I did this to try and make the audience keen and interested with finding out about this certain student who they may have heard of within their school that could become famous or well known.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of construction the product?
Once you know how to use certain tools you can get on with using Photoshop quite well but when it comes to learning what different icons mean it can get a bit complicated. I also found the style of Photoshop I was using to be slightly different to a version i've used before, making it complicated for me when I had to work around it and learn how to do it a different way. I do find it interesting and fun to use as it provides you with so many different ways of making or altering something.

Artist Profile

Name: The Reynold Project

Members:
Lead  Vocals:   Liam Cooke
                           Brad Essex
Lead Guitar:     Jack Olund
Bass Guitar:     Brogan Finnigan
Drummer:         Jack Mugglestone

Age: 17-18

The Reynold Project (TRP) is a post-hardcore band made up of 5 lads, formed from a random idea to jam together which has taken them further than they ever thought. Their music is similar to that of Enter Shikari and Refused, Enter Shikari being their idols, taking inspiration from their music and their performances on stage. Each member brings a different personality to the band, filling it with utter madness. Liam Cooke, vocals, presents himself in chinos, shorts or skinny jeans and band tees, showing his character to be that of a drunken child and fully enjoys giving the audience a performance to remember. Brad Essex, vocals, usually seen in band tees or high-neckline shirts and skinny jeans, his character would be viewed as fairly random and odd, reflecting in his style of singing and performance. Jack Olund, guitar, is often seen in high-necked shirts and skinny jeans, his personality being quite quirky and strange, creating a great performance when on stage. Brogan Finnigan, bass, never seen out of a vest shirt (or shirts cut to a vest) and skinny or normal jeans, his character probably being the most normal out of the group, but still a hint of stupidity in there. Jack Mugglestone, drums, usually seen in shirts or thin jumpers and skinny jeans, his personality is close to that of a 6 year old child, screaming and pulling faces and just overall a bit weird. The attitude and personalities that fill this band is what creates the origional style of post-hardcore music they put across, aiming their music at underground gig goers aged from 16-25 years. They believe that music is for unifying people, they don't write about love and generic problems, more about what annoys them such as pop music being corrupt and false yet dominant in the music industry, the media being bollocks with all the gossip getting on the front page of papers as if its the most important thing and against discrimination.
Their music would be heard on hardcore music channels such as Kerrang Radio and would be seen performing in more urban areas such as city centres. Altogether the band comes across as a lively and very down to earth bunch of lads, just wanting to make music that will entertain and create madness amongst the audience, and just overall have a laugh with each other and their fans.

Audience Profile

Name: William Graham (Wajj)
Age: 17
Occupation: Full Time A-Level Student

Wajj is a massive music fan, keeping up to date with the punk and hardcore side of music, enjoying artists such as 'A Day To Remember', 'Emmure' and 'Parkway Drive'. His taste in music relates to the music genre of The Reynold Project (TRP), giving him an immediate conection to the artist and the style of the magazine i aim to produce. He enjoys going to gigs and festivals such as 'Download Festival', which ties in well with the music genre he listens too and with the type of magazine I want to create. When i showed pictures of TRP to Wajj and played him some of there songs he instantly took a liking to them, saying how their image matched his and what he likes to see in artists, adding how their sound was head banging, fist pumping and crowd surfing worthy, quoting "they sound to be the best up and coming hardcore band". He described TRP's image to be a load of people who appear to be full of stupidity and madness, something the audience likes to see in an artist(s), a sense of reality and commonness which you can compare yourself too, making the magazine i aim to produce connect to my target audience as they can see themselves in the artists and relate  to them.
It's important for me to receive a good amount of positive feedback, showing that my target audience for my magazine has been met, especially from someone like Wajj who enjoys going out with his friends to gigs and spending the large amount of money to go to festivals which relate to his favoured genre of music, someone who has a keen music taste and knows when he's read and heard something with great potential.

Inspiration: Headers

The headers for each of the different sections to this magazine on the right hand side is what i like most about this contents page. I like the idea that the words blends into the background around it's edges, an interesting technique to use. Instead of disappearing into the background it stands out more to me, directing my eyes straight to what the magazine has to offer me, an idea I liked and copied to used it in my preliminary work.

Inspiration: Layout of pictures

The layout of this picture is what appeals to me due to the layout of the props used and characters. the use of the sofa and rug give the picture a more natural and laid back feeling, instead of just being one of the 5 people standing there infront of the camera. The stance of each of the characters appears casual giving the picture a nice atmosphere and not a serious or intense look. By using the sofa and carpet it creates a more homely and natural feel, showing the audience that they're just having a bit of fun and their music is about pleasing their audience by getting them to enjoy it the same way they do.

Inspiration: Symmetry of F/C

The symmetrical look of this magazine is what standsout to me, it looks even and precise with the main header, picture and banner being centre alligned. There's a small amount of text which gives the magizne a simple yet effective look, standing out more than one that is crammed with pictures and text making it look too busy and complicated. The characters face appears to show a nutural expression, giving the magazine a more equal look, also adding to the symmetrical appearance of the magazine.

Inspiration: Layout of pictures/problems

The layout of the pictures down the left hand side appeals to me as they catch your eye, introducing you to the contents of the magazine that you are about to read. It gives you an insight into who the magazine will contain and what it will disscuss, using a varriety of different coloured photos to help make each one standout and appear different. Instead of using photos with the same colour background, causing them to merge and be less effective towards catching you eye.
I find the placement of the main picture to cover too much of the magazine name. Because Kerrang is a noticeable name this magazine doesn't standout to you as much as it should, due to the name being hidden. Misleading custumers into not noticing their magazine brand, losing posible buyers.
